The Beginning of a Sailing Adventure

In 2021, we held the first Sailing Champions League qualification race in Bulgaria, hosted in Varna. A month later, we organized a second edition in Burgas, where the first crews qualified for the international stage. That same year, we launched our first training sessions for beginner sailors, laying the foundation for our growing community.

Growth and the First Bulgarian Team’s Participation in the Sailing Champions League Finals

In 2022, we organized three qualification regattas for the Sailing Champions League in Bulgaria. We expanded our presence by introducing a new sports sailing destination—Iskar Reservoir—making the sport more accessible to people in the capital and surrounding areas. A team that won the Bulgarian qualifications proudly represented the country at the Sailing Champions League Finals in Kiel, Germany. We also launched the first regattas of the amateur league, attracting new sailors and enthusiasts. Additionally, we hosted an SB20 Masterclass with world champion Artyom Bazalkin, giving participants the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and skills directly from one of the best in the class.

Sailing Live

In 2023, we organized four qualification regattas for the Sailing Champions League in Sofia, Varna, and Burgas. For the first time in Bulgaria, sailing competitions were broadcast live on television. The live coverage from the maritime stations in Varna and Burgas brought the adrenaline and excitement of the regattas directly into viewers’ homes, allowing them to experience the race in real time. We also held five regattas as part of the amateur league, and once again, a Bulgarian team qualified for the Sailing Champions League Finals.

New Destinations and International Regattas

We organized three qualification regattas for the Sailing Champions League, introducing a new destination—Sarafovo. The live television broadcast from there further expanded interest in sailing and showcased the excitement and beauty of the competitions to a new audience. A Bulgarian team competed in the Sailing Champions League Finals in Vilamoura, Portugal. We launched the Corporate Sailing League, creating opportunities for team-building experiences through sailing. Additionally, we organized the first edition of the **Balkan Match Race Championship** in Varna – Karantina, in partnership with Greece and Romania. For the first time in Bulgaria, we hosted the **European Match Racing Championship (EMRT)** at Iskar Reservoir, in collaboration with Ultramarin SCV. We also introduced a structured three-level training system, covering beginners, advanced sailors, and regatta preparation.

In 2025, BORA Sailing further strengthened its international profile through high-level racing and education initiatives. We proudly organized the second edition of the Balkan Match Race Cup in Varna, welcoming teams from across the region and reinforcing Bulgaria’s position as a key venue for match racing in Southeast Europe. As part of our commitment to athlete development, we hosted an exclusive sailing clinic led by Rocco Attili, who at the time was ranked 3rd in the World Sailing Match Racing Rankings. The clinic provided participants with in-depth tactical knowledge, on-the-water training, and direct insight into the mindset and techniques of elite-level match racing. The season also included an edition of the European Match Race Tour (EMRT), bringing together international crews and further integrating Bulgaria into the European match racing calendar. Through these events, BORA Sailing continued to build meaningful connections between local sailors and the global sailing community, while promoting excellence, learning, and competitive spirit.
